California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, was founded on March 8, 1901, and sits on one of the largest college campuses in the nation—9,678 acres in and around the city. Today it serves approximately 22,313 undergraduate and 932 graduate students across six colleges: Agriculture, Architecture, Business, Engineering, Liberal Arts, and Science and Mathematics.

Cal Poly's defining characteristic is its 'learn by doing' philosophy, where hands-on experiences are woven through every program. All undergraduate students are required to complete a senior project that integrates classroom learning with real-world application. This approach has produced notable outcomes: student projects have led to companies acquired by Google and inspired others that became household names.

For families with students at Cal Poly, or parents planning for their children's education, a term life policy sized to cover college years and beyond provides the safety net that lets that education happen without creating financial hardship for the household. Many families review or adjust their coverage when a child enrolls.
